This past Sunday over 30 Rocket League teams across the country gathered on PlayStation 4 and PC, respectively, to participate in the last qualifier for the MWEB GameZone Master Series (MGMS) Grand Finals.
The first day of play (14 January) would determine which top three teams would progress to the live broadcast finale on Sunday (21 January).
A battle for the top 3
Going into the first day of play, Intentional Fakes were the number one seeded team – based on the ACGL XP system. They, however, met their first big challenge when they faced xD.Dangerkids , the fourth-seeded team, in the Winners Bracket Semi-Finals.
The xD.Dangerkids lived up to their name by threatening the Intentional Fakes goal box too often to take the win 2-0.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Revenant Esports and Team Name were battling in a hard-fought match for the chance to face xD.Dangerkids in the Winners Bracket Final. Revenant Esports managed to take the match 2-1 and thus progressed to the Winners Bracket Final to take on xD.Dangerkids on Sunday (21 January).
In the losers bracket, teams would have their last chance to progress to the finals on Sunday. Through the chaos, emerged Aerial Flops and Team Name that would have to face one another in the 60th and last match of the day.
Despite Aerial Flops great run in the losers bracket, they met their match in Team Name who managed to dispose of their opposition with a swift 2-0 victory.
Don’t miss all the action this Sunday (21 January) when our top three teams from the second qualifier clash for their shot at R3000 in cash and the final two invitations to the MGMS Grand Finals – which will be detailed on the 22nd of January.

A big shout-out
We would firstly love to send a big shout-out to all those that registered for the tournament this past Sunday.
With over 33 teams registering for the second qualifier, we managed to DOUBLE the number of entries that we received in the first qualifier (16 teams).
Our second thank you goes out to the South African Rocket League community, a big part of which is the crew from RLX who broadcasted the qualifier matches. A shoutout goes to Elf_ZA & Lay-Z for casting and cPZ for streaming. Additionally to Heisenberg_Luke, Coolguy, and dfThaman.
You can catch the VOD of the RLX Stream via:
Then to our tournament admin GhostSixty6 who made sure everything ran as smooth as possible.
Lastly, big thanks to MWEB GameZone for making this all possible. Their MGMS series has done so much to help develop respective gaming communities throughout the years and the Rocket League community is a prime example of that.
